As compared to those parts, they got into the CLC (closed loop cooler) area relatively late, and now have three of those coolers to offer: CL12, CL24 ,and CL28.

For those who don’t know, closed loop coolers are the ones that come with a pre-built water loop from the manufacturers.

You don’t need to assemble anything, and can install them into your system by just attaching their radiator/fan to the case and their water block to your CPU via a bracket. These coolers are also called AIO (All-In-One) coolers.

In terms of technology, all of EVGA’s CLC models, (not just CL28) are based on Asetek’s Gen5 pump, which also powers some of their competitors in the form of NZXT X62 and Corsair H115i.

That being said, there are some subtle changes in areas like Fan design (curved housing), CPU blocks, and pump plate.

To increase the overall durability, this cooler comes with Teflon Nano Bearing fans. The top plate is transparent and has the EVGA logo. In order to control the RGB here, you’ll need to connect your CPU block to a USB header on your motherboard through a USB cable.

Overall, it’s hard to go wrong with any of these CPU coolers when looking for a something to pair with a Ryzen 5 3600 or 3600X.

None of these products will have any issue cooling the said processors, with the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition as the cheapest option, giving the best bang-for-your-buck in terms of performance.

That’s why it’s such a huge shame that it’s so annoying to install, and feels severely outdated compared to the other coolers. The NH-L12S is perfect for small and compact builds, but will suffers when attempting to deal with overclocking.

The NH-D15 and CLC 280 AIO are both excellent coolers, with the CLC 280 AIO offering beautiful RGB lighting but suffers from being quite loud.

On the other hand, while the NH-D15 doesn’t look as visually pleasing, it stacks up quite well in terms of efficiency and is also quieter.

Do you really need an aftermarket cooler?

Most Ryzen CPUs come with a box cooler, and those coolers are doing a fine job. Why would you buy an aftermarket cooler when you get more than a decent one with the CPU?

The Wraith Spire (bundled with the Ryzen 5 3600X) and Wraith Prism (bundled with the Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 9 3900X CPUs) are pretty good coolers. They can keep thermals of Ryzen CPUs under check, even when the CPU is under max load. The Wraith Stealth is fine when running stock frequencies, but it becomes pretty bad when stress testing OCed CPU.

Wraith Prism is fine for running the 3900X on stock clocks. Temperatures are kept at around 70 degrees Celsius, which is a great result for a box cooler. When overclocking, temperatures don’t go over 80 degrees under medium loads. But if you plan on using the CPU for heavy work while overclocked, it’s better to get an aftermarket cooler. The same goes for the 3700X and 3800X.

The Ryzen 5 3600 and the pair of latest Ryzen 3 CPUs with their meek Wraith Stealth cooler will work fine on regular clocks. But if you plan on overclocking them, it’s better to get a budget aftermarket cooler. The Ryzen 3600X with its Wraith Spire cooler will reach acceptable temperatures at stock clocks. Overclocking the CPU again means getting a better cooler.

To summarize. Box coolers shipping with most AMD CPUs are enough to run these CPUs at stock clocks, even under extreme loads. But, if you want to overclock, you should get a better cooler no matter which CPU you own.
