AMD Ryzen 3 1300X
The AMD Ryzen 3 1300X processor had different operating modes from the Ryzen 3 1200 : at the same 1550 MHz in idle, the processor reached 3900 MHz at 1.43 V in single-threaded operations and 3600 MHz at 1.25 V in multi-threaded operations.
As a result, the stock 1300X is slightly more powerful than the stock Ryzen 3 1200 , making it more attractive to use in A320 chipset motherboards.
In Geekbench 3, we have 3872 points for single-threaded operations (against 3569 for Ryzen 3 1200 ) and 12162 points (against 11086) for multi-threaded operations.
But the increase in frequencies and operating voltages has led to an increase in consumption and temperature. Testing the processor in LinX 0.7.0 is an indicator of this:
The processor reached a temperature of 51 ° C, and the consumption exceeded 57 watts.
But with the overclocking of the Ryzen 3 1300X , everything was not entirely smooth. It was possible to achieve stable 4000 MHz only at a voltage of 1.43 V, an increase of even 25 MHz led to an unstable system startup, it was not possible to pass any benchmarks.
And here we are faced with the same effect as in the AMD Ryzen 5 1400 review – the younger processor bypasses its older brothers in terms of overclocking potential.
Introduction
AMD has rocked the very foundation of Intel’s commanding lead in the market with its Zen architecture-based Ryzen family of processors. With the initial launch of the Ryzen 7, competition is once again to Intel and has revitalized AMD’s presence significantly. The Ryzen 7 8-core family along with the HEDT-oriented Threadripper have been doing fairly well to contend with their direct competition but the real competition is where the gaming and mainstream consumer will mostly fall into and that’s where the Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 3 family of AMD’s new processors fall into.
Today we’ll take a look at the CPU as well as gaming performance of the Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 3 processors and see how they fare in our most-demanding CPU-intense titles and benchmarks. We’ll also take a look at how they scale in multithreaded benchmarks.
In this review we’ll focus on the Ryzen 3 family of processors featuring true quad-core parts. Read on to find out more.
The Ryzen 3 Family
The Ryzen 3 currently consists of 2 SKUs: the Ryzen 3 1200 and the Ryzen 3 1300X. The R3 1200 runs at a stock speed of 3.1Ghz while the R3 1300X has a 3.5Ghz stock frequency. Thanks to XFR, the R3 1200 can go up to 3.45Ghz which is just a 50hz tick upwards of its normal maximum boost frequency. The Ryzen 3 1300X is a bit more capable with a 3.9Ghz maximum frequency.
All Ryzen processors have the same number of PCIe lanes but the chipset will dictate what kind of configuration you can run with especially with SLI. The X370 chipset and B350 chipset will both offer multiplier OC support but only the X370 will be capable of having guaranteed SLI and Crossfire although some B350 chipset may have pure Crossfire support.
AMD rolled into 2018 by announcing price cuts across the board on its entire product stack, something that Intel has rarely done despite its tumultuous 2017 marred with issues. Back to AMD, going forward they will be pricing their CPUs as listed above which sees massive 100$+ reducitons on the upper end of the stack while the Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 3 will see some considerable price cuts as well. This puts it in even more ideal positions to clamp down on the market by sheer value alone and attract more customers from a purely price advantage.
Final Words
If one were building a decision tree, an issue is that it gets very hard to lead yourself down the path of the Ryzen 3. While the Ryzen 3 series, on its surface, is a great chip, here is an example of the logic:
- Cheapest/ lowest power x86 office desktop: Core i3 or lower with integrated GPU
- Low-cost gaming machine: Pay 10-20% more ($100) on a system with a Ryzen 5 1600
- Midrange gaming machine: Cost delta between Ryzen 3 and Ryzen 7 1700 is less significant
- Lowest cost non-Intel gaming system: Get a Ryzen 3
To us, the market where one needs a PCIe GPU is above the low-end Core i3 and Core i5 lineup, and therefore the Ryzen 3 lineup. While there will be shoppers in this segment, the fact that AMD is releasing the Ryzen 3 many months after the Ryzen 5 and 7 tells us that this is a product meant for being able to talk market coverage. Surely the APU version of the Ryzen 3 with Vega graphics will be much more interesting.

The testing is done with an ambient temperature of ~21C and the processors are tested with the power saving features disabled in the BIOS.
CPU-Z will be used to verify the processor speed and the voltage being used in Windows 10.
Also, the testing was done on a fresh install of Windows 10 64-bit and we made sure there were as few processes running as possible by disabling a bunch of unnecessary services that come with Windows 10.
We are using the latest BIOS version on all motherboards at the time of writing this review.
In gaming, we will be testing at 1920×1080 and 2560×1440 and the settings will be set to high.
Idle power consumption of the entire computer will be measured after leaving the computer idle for 20 minutes with no additional applications running in the background.
Load power consumption of the entire computer will be measured during benchmarking in 3DMark FireStrike on max settings.
I want to make it clear that power consumption measurements will differ per computer and components if you add optical drives, HDDs etc and it will also differ based on the PSU efficiency.

Value & Conclusion
AMD continues to dominate the CPU market with their Ryzen processors and the Ryzen 3 lineup is no exception.
Intel’s Core i3 lineup is all 2C/4T and have a locked multiplier while the Ryzen 3 lineup comes with four cores and a fully unlocked multiplier.
Multi-core performance will be significantly better with the Ryzen 3 processors and as games become more optimized for multi-core, the Ryzen 3 lineup will perform even better.
The Ryzen 3 1300X and Ryzen 3 1200 are staggeringly ahead of the Intel’s Core i3-7100 in multi-core performance.
Gaming performance is very impressive considering that Zen is a brand new architecture and games have been tailored to Intel’s CPUs for a long time now.
While the Core i3-7100 CPU sometimes gets higher average FPS in some games, the Ryzen 3 CPUs feel much smoother and fps drops happen a lot less.
During gaming, the i3-7100 was being maxed out at 95% CPU usage on all cores while the Ryzen 3 1300X and Ryzen 3 1200 had plenty of headroom to do other things in the background.
If you are someone who’s looking to build a budget gaming PC whether it is at 1080p or 1440p or even higher, the Ryzen 3 processors
are a much smarter buy than Intel’s Core i3 processors in pretty much every category.
Intel CPUs might be slightly better in gaming in some situations, but when you are gaming at 1440p and above, there is almost no difference between the platforms.
Overclocking is super easy with the Ryzen 3 processor since they come unlocked.
Whereas with Intel, the i7-7700K, i5-7600K and i3-7350K are the only unlocked CPUs so you are forced to buy one of those if you want to have an unlocked multiplier.
I managed to overclock the Ryzen 3 1300X and Ryzen 3 1200 at 4.0Ghz using 1.4v and if you invest in a good water cooling or air cooling solution,
you should be able to hit 4.0-4.1GHz very easily.

Intel has been busy milking consumers for the past 6+ years with their 3% performance improvement each generation.
They have basically released the same CPU every year while charging consumers premium prices for it.
AMD’s Ryzen 3 lineup has made Intel’s Core i3 lineup obsolete now simply by offering people the option of buying a 4C/4T processor at less than $150.
I can safely say that the Ryzen 3 1300X and Ryzen 3 1200 processors are perfect for those who do multi-threading work, gaming, and streaming.
The Ryzen 3 1300X and Ryzen 3 1200 processors have a huge advantage over the Core i3 processors in non-gaming applications.
Multi-Core performance, such as media encoding, rendering or even intense multitasking scenarios, the Ryzen 3 processors demolish the Kaby Lake Core i3 CPUs.
We’re in the new multi-threaded era and Ryzen will only improve with time.
The Ryzen 3 1300X and 1200 processors deserve our Gold Award.

Handbrake shows us that four real cores will win out compared to two cores with hyper threading as we see on the i3’s. If you are going to use your Ryzen 3 rig to do some content creation, then those extra two real cores help a lot. ScienceMark produced some really interesting results, and I am not sure if there was a bug in the AEGIS BIOS I used on the motherboard, but for some reason, the 1200’s memory performance is superior to that of the 1300X.
I saw the same difference in memory performance in AIDA64, so it’s not just a bug in a single software application. Perhaps the BIOS is setting timings tighter as the CPU frequency is a bit lower, and perhaps it provides some sort of performance increase in the IMC. While the memory differences show up in synthetic memory benchmarks, in the real-world where memory does matter, it doesn’t seem to help the 1200 outperform the 1300X.
SuperPI is very memory dependent, and the 1300X is doing great compared to the 1200. However, this is also where Intel’s per core performance benefits shine.

Модули памяти Corsair Vengence Pro RGB не только предлагают красивый дизайн, но и высокую производительность. Исходя из, Ваших возможностей выбирайте минимум 2 модуля по 8 Гб с частотой 3000 МГц. Помните, Ryzen 3000 хорошо работает с памятью частота которой вплоть до 3733 МГц.

AMD Ryzen 3 – Overclocking
Every AMD Ryzen chip is unlocked for overclocking, and AMD’s Ryzen Master tool allows for tweaking in Windows, so it’s easier than ever to get some extra grunt from a new chip.
I was able to improve the Ryzen 3 1300X from its stock speed of 3.5GHz to 4.1GHz, although I had to run a hefty 1.475V through the chip to get the CPU running stably with that revised clock.
That’s about as much electricity as I’d like to pump through this chip, though, and it didn’t deliver a huge boost to performance – the 1300X’s Cinebench scores only jumped from 150cb and 551cb to 158cb and 571cb with the tweak applied.
The 1300X consumed and extra 8W when overclocked, too, and heat will increase – although this will depend on your cooler. Sadly, this isn’t enough of a boost to get us excited.
The cheaper Ryzen 3 1200 was better. I used 1.325V to improve its speed from 3.1GHz to 4GHz, and its Cinebench scores rose from 128cb and 465cb to 146cb and 497cb – a slightly better leap.
The 1200 required an extra 11W, but it delivered more than its pricier stablemate.
Those are reasonable results for low-end chips but, as ever, Intel’s chip is competitive. The Core i3-7350K can regularly reach 5GHz in overclocks, which means it will be even further ahead of the AMD chips in single-threaded tasks.

The Ryzen processors support modern features like dual-channel DDR4 memory, PCIe X4 storage, and USB 3.1 Gen 2.
AMD plans to use the Zen architecture around a multi-year CPU roadmap which will be aimed at several market segments such
as mobility products, HPC products and workstations.
Most of the Ryzen processors have 16MB L3 cache with the exception of the Ryzen 5 1400 and the Ryzen 3 series which have just 8MB L3 cache.
Both the Ryzen 3 1300X and Ryzen 3 1200 come with the Wraith Stealth cooler which offer reliable CPU cooling without the need of paying for a third party cooler.

I have to respect AMD for putting an extra effort in shipping their Ryzen processors with high quality stock coolers that are built like third party coolers with a copper base and heatpipes.
Intel has always bundled their processors with garbage coolers that most people simply throw away because they are extremely loud and do a terrible job of cooling.

We have seen AMD’s strong multi-core performance with Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 5 processors, and now we will watch as they take aim at Intel’s Core i3 series processors with the new Ryzen 3 lineup. Today we have the Ryzen 3 1200 and the Ryzen 3 1300X.
Compared to Intel’s dual-core based i3 lineup, AMD’s Ryzen 3 offerings bring four real cores to the table while Intel relies on Hyper-Threading to achieve four threads on their i3 parts. The Ryzen 3 processors we are looking at today offer mid 3GHz base and boost clocks, a nice serving of cache, two CCX (CPU Core Complex), and a nice boxed cooler.

Let’s take a look at how the Ryzen 3 series CPUs stack up.

There is a small typo on some of AMD’s marketing materials; the Ryzen 1300X has a 3.5GHz base clock, not 3.4GHz. Both the Ryzen 3 1300X and 1200 offer a 2+2 CCX configuration, 65W TDPs (although the 1200 uses less than that), 8MB L3 cache, and 512KB L2 cache per core. The 1300X offers a 3.5GHz base, a 3.6GHz all-core boost, a 3.7GHz 2-core boost, and XFR up to 3.9GHz. The 1200 offers a 3.1GHz base, a 3.4GHz 2-core boost, and a 3.45GHz XFR boost. Both CPUs come with the Wraith Stealth heat sink cooler, which is a bit shorter than the one that comes with the Ryzen 5 processors.

All Ryzen 3 processors carry the same high-end internal features and architecture as their Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 counterparts. They all offer Pure Power, Precision Boost, XFR (Extended Frequency Range), Neural Net Prediction, and Smart Prefetch. That means the Ryzen 3 processors all have the same intricate network of sensors and power gates to improve power efficiency, while also increasing clock speeds when the CPU can handle higher XFR frequencies.
CPU Performance Results
Looking at the Cinebench R15 chart above, we can see that the Ryzen 3 1300X and Ryzen 3 1200 performed much better than the Core i3-7100 in multi-core performance.
In the Cinebench R11.5 test, the Ryzen 3 1300X and Ryzen 3 1200 wrecked the i3-7100 in multi-core performance and single-core performance is excellent too.
Once again, the Ryzen 3 CPUs outperformed the Core i3-7100 CPU in the POV-Ray 3.7 benchmark.
Moving on to the TrueCrypt test, the Ryzen 3 1300X and Ryzen 3 1200 decimated the Core i3-7100.
The Ryzen 3 1300X and Ryzen 3 1200 demolished the Core i3-7100 in the SiSoftware Sandra test.
In the PCMark 8 Creative Suite benchmark, the Ryzen 3 1300X and Ryzen 3 1200 performed better than the Core i3-7100.
Moving on to the 3DMark FireStrike Extreme test, the Ryzen 3 CPUs delivered excellent performance.
Conclusion
With the Ryzen 3 1300X and Ryzen 3 1200 offering the best value quad-core in the market right now, there’s certainly plenty to look out for whatever the company has in store in the future. But focusing what we have on hand, the Ryzen 3 processors offer compelling value in the entry level market particularly for those who need the quad-core processing power but are still budget-restricted.
Looking at it from a purely performance perspective, the Ryzen 3 processors are still outclassed in single-threaded performance by Intel and even in quad-core scenarios in gaming but looking at the price advantage, the benefits of a quad-core in optimized applications coming in from the future or just the sound of a true-quad core to general consumers, will surely be the more appealing choice.
For those looking to build low-power PCs, the lack of an IGP will be the biggest weakness of the Ryzen 3 processors and provided they reside in the value segment, it was more of making the most out of a position where they did not want to go with an older GPU solution which they already have in their Bristol Ridge APUs.
With Intel cutting back on the Pentium G4560, they have literally opened the doors for the Ryzen 3 to shine. Paired with at least a GTX 1050 Ti or a Radeon RX570, the Ryzen 3 processors offer competitive gaming performance. If you’re looking to build a decent, true-quad core gaming setup or multimedia build, the Ryzen 3 processors are a great foundation for a build.

Temperature
We used the Noctua NH-D15 to cool the Ryzen 3 1300X and Ryzen 3 1200.
Without any overclocking, the Ryzen 3 1300X and Ryzen 3 1200 run under 31 Degree Celsius in idle and never go above 55 C in gaming.
I tested these two CPUs by playing Battlefield 1 on max settings and I never saw the temperature of either CPU go above 55 C so that’s pretty amazing.
Similarly like the other Ryzen CPUs, I managed to overclock both CPUs to 4.0Ghz by going into the BIOS and bumping up the voltage to 1.4v.
I did this simply by increasing the multiplier and increasing the CPU voltage setting in the BIOS.
That is about as easy as overclocking gets when the CPU is fully unlocked.
After I managed to get the CPUs stable at 4.0Ghz, idle temp jumped to 35C and load temperature jumped to around 72 C.
Once I got out of Battlefield 1, the temperature of both CPUs dropped back down to around 35 C within a few minutes.
The Ryzen 3 processors have impressed me with their fantastic power consumption, temperature and overclocking ability.
Wraith Stealth CPU Cooler
Unlike the high-end Ryzen 7s which have the Wraith MAX CPU cooler or the Ryzen 5s with the Wraith Spire Heatsink, the Ryzen 3s come with the Wraith Stealth cooler.
As the name suggests, it operates with priority for silent performance. It uses a 90mm downward blowing fan on an aluminum block similar to the Wraith Spire. However, the main difference is that there is no copper core in the middle. The block is a solid aluminum piece with the fins carved out for directing airflow.
The thermal interface material comes pre-applied and installation is extremely easy. Users will need their stock motherboard backplate, although they do not need the bracket. Each corner of the heatsink just has to be screwed into the backplate and it could even be done by hand. Although using a screw driver is suggested. This is a superior mounting solution to the flimsy push-pin design and is much easier to install and remove compared to the locking mechanism of the Wraith MAX cooler.
The 90mm fan is PWM controlled with a wide range of RPM. Although it can go as high as 2700RPM, it hardly moves past 1600RPM during normal operation. On a typical motherboard’s silent mode, it operates as low as 700 RPM in low loads and is virtually inaudible.
